Well done on getting this route done Jim, sorry we didn't do it sooner. Hope you don't give it an of-fence-ive name!!

Any chance of sorting out a PhotoTopo for Dali's hole? I often point beginner slate climbers there. I'll even take the photo if needed as I already take photos for other forthcoming guidebooks. Guess we just need someone to draw some lines in the right place.

Excellent moves, a little gem and well worth anyones time. Probably English 6a if your 6'2" like me and it's safe as houses if you can make the long reaches to clip the bolts. Could be scary for shorties, worth a star in my book

Yep, bit of a project going on here, sorry it's taking so long, all the usual climbers excuses. Will leave all the hangers on when we've done it. But really, who stole the quick draw from my high point, isn't it obvious that it's a project. Whoever you are be aware that that quickdraw has a very dubious history.

Lead Departure Lounge as warm up on Easter Monday and, while agreeing that it is an ideal child's first lead, found it quite loose, still. Watching a supervised group of children on it later with one stood directly underneath as part of a belay team gave me a bit of concern.

Out of interest does anyone know the name/grade of the bolted route to the right of the waterlogged locked tunnel with a gate? The one that isn't shown in the 'Costa del Dali topo 500' linked at the bottom of the page?
I was also wondering that same about the route up the arete to the right too. The one with the single bolt lower off.

As the title says.
Colin we met briefly when you were working on Bon Amie and as I said then I'm grateful for the work you've put in. A friend and I climbed Grandpere and Grandmere and found them amenable excursions, they are well protected and above all enjoyable. We'd have tried the others if it had not have been for all the slate dust and falling rubble! All in all good work. Some of us have neither the ability nor the inclination to climb hard, whether mentally or physically, and these additions to this area of the quarry are appreciated and I've little doubt will become popular. The irony of this post comes from the whirlwind of self opinionated egotistical 'nay saying' that seems to have evolved around this seemingly insignificant block of slate which has for many years been overlooked for (rightly?) greater things. If it hadn't have been for some of the negative remarks I'd have never responded! Sure there are many better, harder and bolder routes around...go do them if you want to..after all they're there to be done...as are these. Best wishes Damian

Pour Tout le Monde F5c.... anyone agree that this route is F6a instead of F5c... due to the technical movement on the middle section ? any comments are welcome... cheers.

I've just heard that this route has been retro-bolted this weekend. I think this is a retro grade step and that these boltsshould be removed. Before retro-bolting anything surely a wide ranging discussion is needed, not least on this forum? My feeling was that Horse Latitudes tested the water for retro-bolting and whilst that route has been accepted, I thought the feeling was no more retroing, not least with out some discussion. I can happily through the floor open at the next BMC CYmru meeting (Sept 2nd Vaynol 8.00pm)

I was Informed that some of the carabiner style loweroffs at costa dali were begining to seize and rust, anyone experienced this? if so, I reckon someone should replace them with something more suitable before bimetallic corrosion duff's the bolts.

Would anyone object to the re-cleaning and bolting of the routes on Blast Shelter Crag ?
Apart from outdoor groups using the slab to abseil down, it would appear to received very little traffic from climbers. The route are dirty with vegetation encroaching in many places. It would also relieve some of the "pressure" on Dali's Hole routes. I would be happy for any suggestions before I commence any work. J.Kelly

firstly, enjoyable climbing with perplexing moves to gain upper groove - very worthwhile. i backed off after this though as the upper groove is virtually unprotected (i was able to get a micro wire in but you cant really see the placement). youd probably just lob onto the bolt if you fell and it looks like just one move to gain good holds but it didnt feel right at the grade. am interested to hear if i missed something, was being overly cautious and what others thought?

Why doesn't anyone climb on Dali's Wall anymore? And yet Costa Del Dali is full of climbers...Should lower offs be added to the routes on Dali's Wall to make them more user friendly? Should retro bolting be considered and discussed for this once popular area?

There are centres almost every day using and enjoying this convenient and enjoyable area as well as many individuals.I would wish to request that the centres and individuals contribute to the 'NWBF(bolt fund) as a means of saying -Thank you for this facility! It did'nt come cheap! a chunk from the fund and approx £50 out of my pocket. Please ignor this comment and request if you already have contributed and a big 'thank you if you have.
